Free DjVu Reader is a free program for Windows that opens, views and exports DjVu files.

DjVu is digital file format developed by AT&T Labs to store images. It was developed with scanned images in mind primarily, but it works with text, photographs, line drawings and so forth. The purpose of the format is to be Web-friendly and to store high-quality images in the least amount of space. The Portable Document Format or PDF developed by Adobe is a similar file format.

Free DjVu Reader is freeware, which means you can download, install and use the program without cost. While DjVu is no longer a prevalent file format, if you have a DjVu that you want to read, then Free DjVu Reader is an excellent option. It lets you open and fully view these files. You can cycle through the pages with the page forward and page backward buttons. There is also a sidebar that enumerates all of the pages. It provides page previews, and you can select any page directly through it.

Free DjVu Reader also allows you export files. You can export one object, several and all of the pages in a DjVu file. The program supports exporting to image files, such as BMP, GIF, JPG, PNG and TIFF. Additionally, Free DjVu Reader supports export to PDF, which may be its greatest feature. Since PDF is a much more prevalent document format, it is often just handy to convert any DjVu files you have into this more accessible format.

Free DjVu Reader is no longer supported by the developer. It was updated to Windows 8/8.1 but not Windows 10. It may work through compatibility mode, but if you experience any bugs or other issues or need any kind of support, that may not be available.
